Two Drowning Souls Saved by Nalandians

The Life Saving Society of Nalanda College saved two teenagers lives while bathing off the Mount Lavinia Beach. Life savers were aware of people who gather around the beach everyday.
On July 22nd the two boys named Ruwan Nishantha Ilangakoon and Buddhika Udaya Maduranga were struggling with insubordinate surfs around 12.45 pm Chanuka responded swiftly and swam towards Ruwan for about 200 meters while asking help from Sameera. Ruwan was saved in-noxiously by Chanuka. Meanwhile Sameera Vithanage; the captain of The Life Saving Society was able to save Buddhika who was dragged away by currents in a sea pocket. The two young men were brought ashore safely by accompnying Chamath Degalle and Kasun Jayanatha. The condition of Ruwan was stable but Buddhika was unconscious.
Sameera did not terminate his responsibility by this. He supplied Buddhika with artificial breathing, betwixt Chanuka helped him with artificial heart beat supply. The Junior Life Savers Pavithra Perera and Madusha Guruge were able to control the people gathered around. Their effort was successful and Buddhika came to his consciousness.
Non of the people gathered standed to take in the patient to the hospital. Sameera immeaditaley took Buddhika to Kalubowila hospital with the help of a parent of a Nalanda College student. Buddhika was entered to ICU at Kalubowila. Later on Ruwan informed that Buddhika was fully recovered.
Gamika and Gihantha proudly said that they could save another life/person on 8th July. The Life Saving Society of Nalanda College has saved 615 lives since its establishment in 1981.
Sameera and his fellow Life Savers gratefully commemorated The Principal; Ranjith Jayasundara, the teacher in-charge; Lasal Jayathunga and coach; Roshan Wijesinghe.
They also appreciated the indelible influence of Parents and Old Boys.
"WISDOM ILLUMINATES CHARACTER", by showing the colours of school motto, the Life Saving Society of Nalanda College showed their generosity on giving life to a life.

Prefects Guild Print E-mail

From the earliest of times, the Prefects Guild Of Nalanda College have upheld a sincere sum of duties. Even though the post of Head Prefect is handed over to another once a year the model prefect has been recognized as a supportive and friendly personality throughout the years, as they have strictly maintained the principles that the prefects stand by. The prefect who has taken this significant post is doing so hoping to indulge in some extra- curricular activities to “spice up” their school life.
When we look back into the past it is recorded that the Prefects Guild inaugurated in the year 1965. Mr. Gunapala Wikramarathne was the Principal at that time while the initial head prefect was D. N. C. Kottege. From that time onwards, the prefect body had willingly dedicated themselves to uphold the school’s unique reputation despite having to work under difficult circumstances compared to today. There have been four principals who have inspired and guided the prefect body since 1965. The master in charge is Mr. Asoka Senanayake who is like a father figure to the prefects. He has been a member of this esteemed foundation in his time and always encourages the prefects to improve the guild. The present principal Mr. H. U. Premathilaka has shed new light to the blossoming Prefects Guild of Nalanda College.
The Prefects Guild is considered as a link between the school administration and the students. It is this bond that has made possible the prosper and the harmony of the whole school core.

Nalanda clinched the All Island Under-20 inter-schools limited over title when they recorded an easy six wicket win over St Anne’s Kurunegala in the final played at the R. Premadasa Stadium yesterday.
It was the sixth time that Nalanda won the title after they last won in the year 2004 under the captaincy of Yasas Hewavitharana.
Nalanda led by Madhawa Warnapura were too strong for their opponents as St Anne’s winning the toss and electing to take first lease of the wicket made 115 in 47.2 overs. The damage was done by right arm off spinner Dinuka Jayasinghe who ended up with impressive figures of 5 for 11.
St Anne’s 115 in 47.2 overs (Chamalka Rodrigo 43, Yohan Kanumale 32; Dinuk Jayasinghe 5 for 11, Amal Atapattu 2 for 18)
Nalanda 119 for 4 (in 33 overs (Primosh Perera 31, Nipun Karunanayake 31 n.o.; Amaranath Wanninayake 2 for 20, Chamikara Edirisinghe 2 for 24)

Nalanda Clash in Under-20 Cricket Final Print E-mail

St. Anne's College Kurunegala will be hoping to produce another giant killing performance when they take on Nalanda College in the inter school under 20 knock out limited overs cricket tournament final at the R. Premadasa Stadium on Sunday.
St. Anne's College have already created history having made it to the final for the first time and will be determined to add the finishing touches for a memorable tournament. They are certainly in a confident mood having defeated some of the more fancied teams on their way into the final.
They put up a stunning performance to beat Kingswood College Kandy by 46 runs in the quarterfinals and then had the better of St. Aloysius College Galle by 15 runs in the semifinals.
Nalanda College of course will go in as the favourites as they will be fielding a talented side with two Sri Lanka Under 19 players in their ranks. They had a setback when they lost their annual one day fixture against Ananda on a faster scoring rate but have bounced back well to be in contention for the title.
Even then the Nalandians had a tough semifinal encounter where they went through some anxious moments before overcoming D. S. Senanayake College by two wickets in an absolute thriller. Apart from this setback they were virtually unchallenged as they defeated Kalutara MV in the pre quarterfinals and Bandaranaike MMV Gampaha in the quarterfinals.
